The Chicken Salt Hack I Use for Better Hot Chips at Home
Takeaway hot chips always taste so much better, don’t they?
Then you buy chicken salt from the supermarket, and it’s just not the same. You end up using heaps, and the flavour still never quite compares to proper chicken shop or fish shop hot chips.
If you’re a hot chips lover like me (because potatoes are life), this is the chicken salt hack my family and I swear by. We don’t buy chicken salt from the supermarket anymore. Instead, we get it from our local chicken shop or fish and chip takeaway.
Most takeaway shops will sell you a container of their chicken salt. It’s usually around $5 to $10 depending on the size, and the flavour is so much nicer than supermarket versions.
Because it’s more concentrated, you don’t need to use nearly as much to get that classic takeaway-style flavour.
Next time you’re at your favourite hot chippie or fish and chip shop, ask them if they sell their chicken salt. Most places will, although some might not.
But also if you are a regular they may even give you a container for free. Trust me it is so much nicer than the supermarket version and a container lasts quite a while.
It’s such a simple swap, but it makes homemade hot chips taste so much better.
