My new favourite obsession is bao buns! I personally get the Mr Chens Bao Buns here in Australia which you can get in supermarkets in the frozen section but there is a lot of brands available. They are simple to make and make a great option for having a takeaway favourite at home.

Delicious and simple Bao Buns at home, you will fall in love with making these yourself

Ingredients
-
1 Piece of Fish (I use frozen Basa)
-
Handful of cherry tomatoes chopped
-
1/4 Red Onion chopped
-
1/4 Cucumber chopped
-
-8 Pickled Jalapeno's Chopped (optional)
-
A few sprigs Fresh Coriander
-
3 Bao Buns
-
Mayonnaise
-
Herbs of your choice for fish I use garlic powder, onion powder, oregano and paprika
-
1/2 Lemon
-
Salt and Pepper
Directions
Coat your fish in your herbs I use Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Oregano and Paprika with a squeeze of lemon and add a little olive oil
Cook in the airfryer if you have one for approx. 15 minutes, at 180°C or until the fish is cooked. I do this in the airfryer because it gives this beautiful crispy outside with the fish with just the herbs, no coating and the center is lovely and soft. If you don't have one simply cook it in the oven for approx. the same time or until cooked
Steam your Bao Buns as per the instructions on your pack. For example if they take about 10 minutes to steam put them on 5 minutes after the fish has started to it's ready the same time
While that is cooking chop your onion, cucumber, jalapenos if using and tomato into small pieces. Mix together and add some lemon juice, salt and pepper on top. You can add as much or as little of each ingredient as you like with the salad.
Once the fish is cooked cut it up into pieces, but not too small I would just cut the fish into 1/4s next time so that it stays flat on the bao bun to put the salad in top
Add your fish to the bao bun, then salad, siracha sauce and mayonnaise. If you don't like spicy you can just use mayonnaise or a tarte etc. Your fav sauce you use with fish
Add the coriander on top and eat right away

Recipe Note
- This will make approx. 3 Bao buns depending on how much filling you use in each. If you are making it for a family just assume 1 piece of fish is for 1 person and will spread across 3 Bao Buns usually
- These are best eaten fresh and hot so serve right away. If you are making with for a family dinner you can prep everything and pop into the middle of the table for everyone to make their own with their fav fillings
- If you don't like Chili you can use Sweet Chili or simply just use mayonnaise and take our the jalapenos
