Delicious Apple Cobbler Recipe

Ingredients

    blank

    • 700g Granny Smith Apples (*See note 1)

    • 1 Tbsp Butter

    • ½ Tsp Cinnamon

    • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice

    • 1 Tsp Corn Flour

    • ¼ Cup Packed Brown Sugar (*See Note 2)

    blank

    • 150 g Plain Flour (All purpose Flour)
    • 60 g Brown Sugar
    • 75 g Butter Chopped
    • 90 ml Buttermilk (see note 3*)
    • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
    • ¼ Tsp Baking Soda
    • ¼ tsp of Salt
    • ½ Tsp Vanilla Essence
    • ½ tsp Cinnamon Sugar for topping before baking

    Directions

    1. Peel, core and chop your apples into smaller pieces, you don’t need to be too particular but similar size is good so it cooks evenly

    2. Pop a larger pan on a low-medium heat on your stovetop and add in your tbsp of butter, let it melt and add in the chopped apples

    3. Stir it around and let them cook in the butter for about 8 minutes to let the apples cook and soften stirring occasionally. We do this so the apples cook slightly and don’t become watery

    4. Next add in the lemon juice, sugar and cinnamon and continue to cook stirring occasionally for about another 10 minutes until nice and soft.

    5. Add in the Cornflour mix around and cook for another 1-2 minutes and take off the heat

    6. While the apples are cooking you can get your cobbler topping ready

    7. Preheat your oven to 180°C (360°F)
    8. Add your dry ingredients into a bowl, give it a mix around and add in the cubed butter. Squish between your fingers and the flour to mix together until it becomes a sand like texture and is incorporated well.

    9. Add in your wet ingredients and give it a good mix around with a spatula or spoon until all incorporated and no mixture is left

    10. Once it is done and your apples are cooked you can add the apples into the glass baking dish and then add your cobbler mix on top

    11. Use 2 spoons to spread it on top in patches, you want to leave some spaces on top. It doesn’t need to be spread completely over the top which is what a classic cobbler is there is caps in the topping so the juices come through a little.

    12. Sprinkle your cinnamon sugar on top and bake away in the oven for 20-25 minutes until the cobbler topping is golden brown
